Last week, the member of our project, Francisco Yus, attended the 7th Humor Research Conference (HRC) at at Texas A&M—Commerce’s downtown Dallas campus. It was an international multidisciplinary 3-day event, organised by Christian F. Hempelmann and Elisa Gironzetti, former Masters and PhD student at the University of Alicante. Here you can find its schedule as well as the names of all the speakers who took part in the workshops and conferences.
Francisco Yus gave a talk titled «Cognitive Pragmatic approach to humorous communication». As Prof. Salvatore Attardo mentions in this video, Dr. Yus is a leading figure within the Relevance Theory, and he’s just published the book Humor and relevance, in which he analyses several humorous discourses and the strategies we use in order to process that content.
All in all, it was a fabulous experience!
